Department 56 4044806 Olde Vine Cottage Anglophiles might agree, one of the most charming aspects of the British countryside is the variety of beautiful English cottages, of which Olde Vine Cottage is a wonderful example. Olde Vine is a delightful addition to the Dickens' Villages Series by Department 56. It seems this quaint home was skillfully crafted of solid materials to withstand centuries. It is small and cozy, yet packed with charm. Cottages were often crafted of local, easily obtainable materials, and thus reflect the surrounding area. Note the foundation of rather large field stones of a rich, warm color. The main structure is red brick, carefully laid with added arches above the doors and window. These warm tones are balanced with the cool slate roof. The title is inspired by the 2 bushes that hug the home and nearly surround it. From them, spring lush vines produce hardy pink flowers that apparently withstand the snowy temperatures. Blue curtains adorn the windows and a small bench welcomes neighbors to sit and visit. The steep pitch of the roof in back will easily shed snow as a small drain pipe collects run off in a box below. There's a coal bin near the rear entrance, with a sculpted shovel and tiny, but very convenient door to transfer the coal indoors. Careful examination will reveal tiny painted nail heads on the trim and an a pair of elegant hinges on the large front door.
