In 1941, America entered World War II and millions of citizens were sent oversees. Coca-Cola President, Robert Woodruff, promised that every man in uniform could buy a bottle of Coca-Cola for a nickel. In 1943 General Dwight D. Eisenhower wired Woodruff an urgent plea to have 10 bottling plants supporting troops oversees, so the plants were built to support the troops. This patriotic effort made Coca-Cola an international company.
