With a train as colorful as a New England autumn, a New Haven 4-8-2 sets out with another train heavily laden with the products of the region’s many industries. Cars in this set feature popular paint schemes from the late 1940s and early 1950s as locomotives like 3345 were running out their final days. Despite tracing their roots to USRA designs, the 3300’s were some of the last mainline steam to drop their fires in December, 1951.
Your LEGACY model will have no trouble keeping the tight schedule with these, and many more cars behind her. No northeastern priority freight would be complete without at least one “State of Maine” insulated boxcar, used mainly in potato service. This freight also includes one of the New Haven’s first covered hoppers and a trusty 40’ boxcar with special load restraints and an elaborate script herald that made it any more than “ordinary.” With Lionel’s FreightSounds, she’ll sound as good as she looks. And of course bringing up the markers we have one of a small group of New Haven cabooses built to PRR designs back when steam’s future was far more certain. It’s a train any New Haven fan would be proud to own!
